Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of Trace. Using the app means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.

What Trace does

You describe your work by speaking. Trace turns that into time entries, expenses, change orders and invoices. It keeps the original transcript so you can always check what you actually said.

Check your invoices before you send them

This is the important one. Trace uses AI to interpret speech, and AI gets things wrong. It may mishear a client's name, misread a number, miss something you said, or record work you didn't do.

Every entry is shown to you for review, and low-confidence ones are flagged. Invoices are drafts until you finalize them. You are responsible for checking that an invoice is correct before sending it to a client. We are not responsible for an invoice you send that turns out to be wrong.

Trace is not an accountant. Sales-tax rates are provided as a convenience and may be out of date or wrong for your situation. Confirm your own tax obligations.

Your account

• You need a valid email address; it is how you get back in if you lose your phone.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account per person. Don't share it.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings. It is immediate and permanent.

Your data is yours

You own everything you put into Trace — your transcripts, your entries, your invoices, your client information. We claim no ownership of it and we do not use it to train AI models. We store and process it only to run the service for you. See the Privacy Policy.

Free and paid

Trace is free for up to three clients, with no time limit — logging, your timeline and invoicing all included. Trace Pro removes the client limit.

Pro is billed through the App Store and renews until you cancel. Cancel in your Apple account settings; refunds are handled by Apple under their policy. If you stop paying, you keep everything you have already logged — you simply can't take on new clients beyond the free limit.

Fair use

Don't use Trace to break the law, and don't try to break Trace. Specifically, no:

• recording people without a lawful basis to do so;
• automated or bulk use designed to run up our costs;
• attempting to reach another user's data.

There are rate limits on logging. They are set well above normal use; if you hit one, get in touch.

Availability

We try to keep Trace running and to keep your data safe, but we don't promise uninterrupted service. Trace is provided "as is". Keep your own records of anything you can't afford to lose.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — including lost income, an under- or over-billed invoice, or a dispute with your client. Our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Ending it

You can stop using Trace and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why unless we're legally prevented from doing so.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.
